OK, I am a guy, and one of my long time interests
is cars. With Chevy, my favorite was the '57 - 58 Vette,
and the Bel air you see here was a close runner up. I didn't think
a car could be done very easily, but I have learned that I can sketch
a car like this classic Chevrolet, and by keeping the heat down on
the burner and building up slowly, I can get some pretty smooth shades
which help define the Chevy fenders, as well as the black rubber bumbers
and tires. You can't really see that detail in this picture because
of the lighting & shadow and I should have gotten closer. This
particular gourd piece was done in a collage style characterizing
different aspects of my Brother-in-Laws life. his High School Emblem,
something a little representative of his career, and his first car
which happened to be a 1957 Chevrolet Bel air.
